Mary & Josh ‘23

Mary and Josh were introduced through their mutual friend Tom while both living in Wicker Park, Chicago.  They had met at gatherings before, but really started to build a rapport when they started talking to each other on the train on the way to work.  They talked mostly via Snapchat at first; Mary will never forget Josh ignoring her Facebook friend request for about a month (to this day, Josh maintains innocence because he didn’t notice it until later!).  Josh eventually asked Mary out to coffee, and their strong connection was obvious after hour one of about three hours talking. They even learned they were reading the same book at the same time!  From there, the relationship blossomed into one of love, devotion, and adventure.  

Josh proposed to Mary off the coast of Santa Flavia, Sicily, near his dad’s hometown.  They had been planning the trip for years (set back due to COVID), and Josh was lucky enough to have his dad’s best friend take them out on his boat to sight-see.  Holding the ring was nerve-racking for Josh, who envisioned losing it to the sea out of clumsiness. Once the boat stopped, Josh told Mary to pose for a picture looking out to the coast.  When she turned around, Josh was on one knee with the ring.  Needless to say, she said yes :)
